The Blog
Atmospheric Underworld is a blog about TTRPGs. Topics range wildly, but if there is a theme, it's commentary on explaining, designing, and running rules light, 'experience first' RPGs such as those championed by the NSR/OSR movement/philosophy (read more about whatever that means here).
The Atmospheric Underworld Favicon/PfP is a photobash of Bud Cook's Invisible Stalker and Terese Nielsen's Plains.
The Author
The blog is written and maintained by me (Luke!). Outside of the blog, I'm working on a (N/O)SR inspired, rules-light TTRPG about diegetic spellcasting called Other Magics with my wonderful co-designer and friend, James. In another life, I made mods for the hit 2009 video game Minecraft, and still do when the mood strikes. By day, I work as a research engineer in interventional psychiatry, which one day may deserve a post or two of its own.
For comments, questions, concerns, and complaints, I can be found on the Prismatic Waystation discord, or you can...

AI Statement
I strongly object to the use of generative AI technology in TTRPGs and similar creative works. Generative AI has not and will not be used in the writing, research, and execution of Atmospheric Underworld and related works to the extent I can control.
As a semi-regular user of dubiously correct em-dashes, lists of three, and 'not only, but also' phrasing, be warned that I have no plans of ceding my questionable stylistic conventions for the sake of the machines.
